David Beckham champions for equality :”Girls are being held back”

David Beckham delivered a heartfelt and inspiring message at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

Warning that girls worldwide are being “held back” by poverty, violence, and discrimination.

Speaking at an awards ceremony where he was honored for his humanitarian efforts, Beckham emphasized the importance of equal opportunities for girls and boys.

“I want my daughter Harper to have the same opportunities as her brothers, and that should be the case for all girls everywhere,” the former football star declared.

His words resonated deeply with the audience, who gathered to celebrate his commitment to children’s rights and advocacy.

Beckham received the prestigious Crystal Award for his “extraordinary leadership and humanitarianism” in protecting the most vulnerable children.

Hilde Schwab, who presented the award, praised Beckham for using his fame to drive social change and leave a lasting impact.

As a UNICEF goodwill ambassador since 2005, Beckham has been a passionate advocate for children’s rights.

During a Q&A, he explained his presence at Davos, saying,

“I’m here to be the voice of children. Everyone cares about their future, and that’s why I’m here.”

On stage, the 49-year-old shared alarming statistics, noting that more children are at risk today than at any time in recent history.

He called attention to the struggles faced by girls, stressing that their potential should never be limited by gender.

“Girls are held back by poverty, girls are held back by violence, girls are held back by discrimination,” he said.

Beckham described the female teenage population as the “largest generation of future leaders and innovators the world has ever known,”

Urging the global community to support them in achieving their full potential.

The father of four, including one daughter, Harper, said his work with children is among his most meaningful roles.

“It’s one of the most important things in my life,” he remarked, adding that advocating for children’s rights is a responsibility he takes to heart.
