Angry Babu Owino terms DCI detectives ‘talented time wasters’

Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has lashed out at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for failing to show up in court in a case against him.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, a visibly agitated Owino threatened to miss future court hearings over show of bad faith by the State.

“By 8am we were here, court started at 9am. Prosecutors who were handling this matter were not in court. How can the accused be more serious with the case that belongs to the State?” the MP posed.

Owino, who was flanked by a host of lawyers including Danstan Omari, said the case should be done away with by the court because it is a waste of taxpayers’ money.

“We want to make history in this country by making this case be the first criminal case to end in the fastest way possible. In fact if it were possible that we finish this case today. We have four witnesses (police officers) who can all testify within a day,” the legislator added.

Babu Owino arrested

Babu Owino was arraigned at Milimani Law Courts on July 20,2023 and charged with engaging in subversive activities. Prosecution told the court that the offences occurred between July 8 and July 18 within Nairobi.

This came two days after his mysterious arrest on July 18, a day to Azimio’s planned anti-government protests.

In a viral video, his wife Fridah Ongili appealed for Owino’s immediate release while revealing that he was being held at Wanguru Police Station in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
