DCI dismisses Senator Omtatah’s claims, says it has not abducted cartoonist Kibet Bull

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed allegations by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah linking the investigative agency to the reported abduction of cartoonist Gideon Kibet, popularly known as Kibet Bull.

In a statement on Thursday, December 26, Senator Omtatah said that Kibet visited his office between 10 am and 4 pm, and all this while, a white Subaru Forester vehicle was parked across the road.

“Firstly, we wish to clarify that the DCI categorically denies any association with the vehicle in question. The suggestion that a vehicle belonging to the DCI was involved in any alleged abduction is not only unfounded but also sensationalizes a sensitive issue that is currently under thorough investigation,” the DCI says.

And like the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, DCI boss Mohamed Amin insists that all police operations are conducted within the confines of the Constitution and established legal frameworks.

“The DCI supports this stance and reassures the public that no extrajudicial actions will be tolerated within our ranks. We have received reports of alleged abductions, and the DCI is diligently working to investigate these claims.

“We urge any individuals with credible information on these matters to come forward and cooperate with our independent investigations. The DCI remains open and transparent in handling such cases, ensuring that justice is pursued without prejudice or compromise,” the DCI boss adds.

In his hard-hitting statement, Senator Omtatah had demanded an explanation from Kanja and Amin, calling for the immediate release of Kibet and all the other individuals who have been reported missing — including Bill Mwangi, Peter Muteti and Bernard Kavuli.

However, the DCI insists that it conducts its investigations with utmost integrity. The agency further said that it is fully committed to expediting these investigations, urging public leaders to refrain from making speculative statements that may hinder the progress of ongoing investigations.

Mwangi was reportedly abducted by four masked and armed men from a barbershop in Embu, before been bundled into a double cabin truck on Saturday, December 21.

On the same day, Muteti was reportedly picked up by four men outside a kiosk in Uthiru at around 9 am. 24-year-old Kavuli was reportedly kidnapped at a petrol station in Ngong town on Sunday, December 22 evening by armed men.
