The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested and arraigned Sgt. Thomas Nahashon Kibet, a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Officer based at Changamwe Police Station in Mombasa County.

Kibet was arrested after soliciting and receiving a bribe from the complainant as an inducement to terminate a criminal case in which the complainant was involved.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday after the ODPP concurred with the Commission’s recommendation to charge him. He was held at Port Police Station pending his arraignment on Friday.

“The suspect was charged that on the 6th day of June, 2018, at Changamwe Police Station, within Mombasa County in the Republic of Kenya, being a person employed by a Public body to wit, National Police Service as a Corporal, DCI officer, he requested a financial advantage of Ksh20,000 and received an initial amount of Ksh10,000 from the complainant with intent that in consequence therefore, he would compromise an investigation leading to the termination of the complaint’s criminal case,” read part of EACC statement.

Appearing before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Hon. Alex Ithuku, the accused person denied the charges and was released on a bond of Ksh300,000 or Ksh100,000 cash bail.

The matter will be mentioned on 10th February, 2025.
