The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released a video that captured persons who took advantage of the peaceful protests against finance bill to break into and loot Cleanshelf Supermarket in Rongai, Kajiado County.
On the fateful day (Thursday, June 27), the looters are said to have overpowered unarmed security guards outside the supermarket on Tusky’s Stage and stole goods of unknown value.
According to Kajiado North Sub-County Commander Hussein Abduba, the residents were protesting against the controversial Finance Bill, 2024, until 2 pm when chaos started.
“We managed to arrest at least 50 people who were caught looting supermarket and other shops in the area,” he said at the time.
Although the police boss denied that police shooting live bullets at the demonstrators in an attempt to contain them, reports indicate that several people were shot, with at least three dead.
