The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday November 18, 2024 clarified that reports about two suspects arrested for breaking into State House in Mombasa and sleeping on President William Ruto’s bed, was fake news.

This is after a fake statement circulated on social media, claiming that the two suspects arrested by DCI detectives were sleeping in President Ruto’s king-size bed.

According to the fake statement, the two suspects broke into Mombasa State House through an open window just to feel the comfort of a president’s bed.

In addition, the fake statement had purported that no items were damaged or stolen during the incident at the Mombasa State House.

However, the government agency maintained that the two were not arrested for breaking into the State House as alleged. 

“Contrary to some fake news doing rounds in the online space, two suspects were arrested on November 11, 2024, by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Central Police Station Mombasa, for the offence of handling suspected stolen properties,” DCI noted in a statement.

The false news had indicated that the two suspects were found out after cooks heard snoring sounds coming from the President’s bedroom, before alerting the police.

Meanwhile, the DCI clarified that the two were arrested within Mombasa CBD following a tip-off from members of the public. 

During a security operation conducted at Rio building along Digo Road, 51 mobile phones, several laptops among other items worth over Ksh1.2 million were recovered. 

Both the exhibits and the two suspects were escorted to the police station and legal action was taken.
