The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now want members of the public to help with information that can lead to the arrest of Ken Kimathi Gichunuku alias Sultan, the prime suspect in the murder of Seth Nyakio Njeri.
Njeri’s body was found at her friend’s house at Biafra Estate within Thika township on October 10, 2024. After committing the murder, the suspect is said to have gone into hiding.
“Do you know his whereabouts? Have you any information that might assist in his speedy arrest? Call our toll free hotline 0800 722 203 any time to report anonymously, or report to any police station near you.”
The investigative agency further says that Gichunuku has a criminal record of threatening to kill as evidenced in a September 25, 2024 court case, and “detectives are considering him dangerous to anyone he deems might expose him.”
What happened?
Nyakio, 23, was the only child in her family, who recently graduated from Zetech University.
Reports indicate that Nyakio left home on Saturday, October 19 to visit a friend.
Her mother — Lucy Njeri, a Nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) from Kirinyaga — says she spoke with her that night until Sunday when she couldn’t get her on phone.
It was not until Monday, October 21 when the family received a cryptic call that Nyakio had been killed and her body was in a house in Biafra.
Upon calling the police and going to the house, her lifeless and naked body was found lying on the bed. Police say she was sexually assaulted before the murderer strangled her to death.
Preliminary reports have confirmed she was killed on Monday.
The prime suspect is her estranged boyfriend. The friend she went to visit has already recorded a statement with the police.
Njeri, in an interview with Citizen Digital, described her late daughter as “lovable, charming, and deeply respectful. She was always my biggest supporter, even during my campaign journey.”
