The death toll in Migaa bus accident along Eldoret-Nakuru highway has risen to 13, after 5 more bodies were retrieved from the wreckage of the bus.
55 other passengers sustained injuries and are being treated at various hospitals in the area, according to the Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati.
According to the police, the accident occurred on Tuesday August 20, 2024 at 4am as the bus was headed from Kakamega to Nakuru, on the way to Mombasa.
Survivors of the accident told police that the bus lost control as the driver negotiated the steep stretch.
The bus rammed into the barrier on the stretch and knocked other vehicles ahead of it before it landed in a ditch.
“Thirty-six injured individuals have been taken to Molo and Coptic Hospitals following a road traffic incident involving a PSV bus and multiple vehicles at Migaa in Molo, Nakuru County,” the Kenya Red Cross reported.
“The Kenya Red Cross, alongside a multi-agency response team, is still at the scene providing assistance.”
Out of the 13 people who were confirmed dead during the accident, 5 are women, 7 men and one child.
