A primary school in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County has been closed after the decomposing body of one of their own was discovered.
In an unfortunate occurrence, the decomposing body of a Grade Six pupil was discovered in one of the classrooms at Mogoyet Primary School.
The incident comes days after schools reopened for the first term.
Apparently, some teachers reported of a foul smell emanating from one of the ECDE classrooms, prompting a search.
To their shock, the body of one of their pupils was discovered in a decomposing state.
One of the parents, Jackson Muganda, divulged that the deceased had been reported missing about two months ago.
She had just completed her Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examination.
“The school management had to look for someone to fumigate and was shocked to learn that it was a human body.
“The shock and grief within the community IS palpable as they grapple with the realisation that a young life was lost under mysterious circumstances within the confines of the school,” he was quoted as saying by The Standard.
Confirming the incident, Kiminini OCPD John Onditi stated that investigations had kicked off to resolve the girl’s mysterious death.
“We will launch investigations to know when 12-year-old Triza Naliaka was killed, who killed her, and the motive behind the inhumane killing,” the police boss.
He stated that the girls parents or relatives had not filed a missing person report with the police.
Apparently, the girl’s mother assumed she had gone to visit her father during the holidays but did not contact the father to ascertain that.
OCPD Onditi urged parents to take caution on the whereabouts of their children even as the learners resume learning.
The school headteacher Amadi Douglas confirmed closure of the school, saying the school would be fumigated and the 632 pupils would resume learning on Monday, January 15.
