I am going to take legal action against the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang has reiterated, after the agency linked him to a gold scam.
Speaking on Monday, October 16 after visiting the DCI headquarters to seek clarification, Senator Chesang rued that the DCI had tarnished his name and assassinated his character.
“I am a law abiding citizen and a senator. If they [DCI] had issues with me they could have called me to clarify, I am a public figure,” the youthful senator told journalists outside the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.
‘I’ve never done gold business’
The legislator insisted that the whole saga has been instigated by his political nemesis, regretting the the DCI has allowed itself to be used to settle political scores.
“It is unfortunate for the DCI to tarnish my name. It is something that I want to take legal action so that we can end this nonsense. Apart from being a politician I am also a businessman and I can lose business because of this,” he added, saying that he has never been engaged in gold business in his life.
The senator was accompanied by his lawyer, Otiende Amollo, who faulted the DCI for circulating such news about his client without even reaching out to him first.
‘Deputy DCI not aware of any probe‘
“We have had a meeting with the Deputy DCI Nicholas Kawende. He confesses not knowing anything about either the investigation or the media coverage. He has directed us to reach out to the DCI in charge of airport. We have tried to reach out but unsuccessfully,” the lawyer says.
He adds: “It is unfortunate when an official gov’t body like DCI circulates information that is false, unverified, and has not reached out to the person concerned. We are going to take legal action against the DCI.”
