Daddy Yankee, the renowned reggaeton artist, officially announced his retirement from the genre during his farewell tour, La Meta (The Goal).
The reggaeton legend announced this to his fans and supporters on his final tour leg in Puerto Rico.
The 46-year-old artist, known for global hits like “Gasolina” and “Despacito,” revealed in a heartfelt speech after his performance.
He shared that he would be stepping away from reggaeton to devote his life to his religious faith.
Expressing the importance of the moment, Daddy Yankee stated that the day marked the most significant in his life.

Despite his worldly success and achievements, he confessed to feeling unfulfilled for a long time.
He revealed that someone had filled that emptiness and cited a Bible verse, emphasizing the need to prioritize one’s soul over worldly success.
Tears were visible as the hitmaker shared his decision with the cheering crowd of over 18,000 people at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico.
He announced his commitment to live for Jesus and embark on a new beginning using his birth name, Ramón Ayala.

“All the tools that I have in my possession such as music, social networks, platforms, a microphone — everything that Jesus gave me — is now for his kingdom,” Daddy Yankee declared.
He expressed gratitude to Puerto Rico and invited his followers to join him in this new chapter.
The reggaeton legend expressed his hope to evangelize the world from Puerto Rico and concluded with an “Amen.”
With this announcement, it is yet not clear which direction the music genre will take over time after its biggest champion exited the stage.
