Details of Ruto’s phone call with US President Joe Biden

President William Ruto has revealed that he had a phone call conversation with United States President Joe Biden on Tuesday, October 3.

In a statement posted on his X account, President Ruto explained that he discussed with President Biden various issues including the Haiti security situation.

“Held a telephone conversation with US President Joe Biden and discussed our shared democratic values and belief in the rule of law as a platform for expanding economic opportunities and prosperity”.

“President Biden thanked Kenya for accepting to lead the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission to Haiti and expressed America’s support for the mission,” read part of President Ruto’s statement.

Ruto explained that relations between Kenya and the United States are focused on the expansion of shared prosperity.

“We are expediting the finalization of a Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership (STIP) agreement, which will anchor increased trade, boost manufacturing, create jobs, and spur investment between our nations,” he said.

“We are particularly keen on partnerships in infrastructure, renewable energy, green manufacturing and empowering Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), a key engine in our economic growth,” he added.

According to President Ruto, they also discussed matters of regional security, conflict resolution, and fighting terrorism in Africa.

He added that the peace and political stability in the Horn of Africa would promote trade within the region for economic empowerment.

At the same time, President Biden congratulated Kenya for successfully hosting the African Climate Summit. 

On the other hand, a communication from the White House revealed that the Haiti mission dominated the phone call which lasted for about 30 minutes.

“President Joseph Biden, Jr. spoke with President William Ruto of Kenya today to thank him for answering Haiti’s call to serve as the lead nation of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission,” the White House reported.

The two presidents also welcomed the successful vote at the United Nations Security Council, which approved Kenya’s request to lead the mission.

“They welcomed the successful vote at the United Nations Security Council yesterday authorizing the MSS to bring relief to the people of Haiti, who have suffered,” read part of the White House statement.
