President William Ruto on Monday, February 3 evening had a telephone conversation with His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom.
The duo discussed the longstanding and close ties between Kenya and the United Kingdom.
“I have had a telephone conversation with His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom. We discussed Kenya’s long-standing and close ties with the United Kingdom,” President Ruto said after the telephone conversation with the British Monarch.
The conversation also centered around the climate conversation. The UK and Kenya have a pact that is geared towards working together to accelerate action on climate change while creating green jobs.
The Kenya-UK Pact is a shared vision that has resulted in a history of successful collaboration through the Energy Transition Council, the Economic Partnership Agreement and the UK-Kenya Strategic Partnership 2020-2025.
The two countries are also working together to demonstrate global leadership on climate and environmental issues by: deploying expertise on climate finance, resilience and adaptation, renewable energy, biodiversity, and science and technology; creating green jobs; and facilitating peer learning.
“I am glad that Kenya and the United Kingdom have a shared passion for nature and climate conservation,” Ruto adds.
Lastly, Ruto and King Charles III discussed regional peace and security We also discussed regional peace and security as well as Kenya’s role.
President Ruto, in his capacity as the chairperson of the East African Community (EAC) heads of State summit, which has been at the forefront of negotiating a peace deal in the conflict-ridden eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
