Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Bomet Central have arrested the prime suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of 45-year-old Rachealine Ruto, whose lifeless body was discovered in March 2025.
The chilling discovery was made by Ruto’s daughter after numerous calls to her mother went unanswered throughout the day. Overcome with worry, she decided to visit her mother’s house, only to be met with a horrifying scene. Ruto’s body lay in a pool of blood on her bed, bearing multiple stab wounds to the arms, chest, and back, along with deep gashes to her neck.
Determined to bring the perpetrator to justice, DCI detectives launched a meticulous investigation into the shocking crime. Their efforts led to the arrest of Wesley Cheruiyot Koech, 28, who was found hiding in Sailo village, Kipkelion East Sub-County, thanks to forensic tracking.
Key evidence recovered
During interrogation, Cheruiyot led detectives to his hideout, where crucial pieces of evidence were recovered. Among the items found were the suspected murder weapon a bloodstained knife wrapped in a cloth as well as the deceased’s ring and mobile phone. Disturbingly, the phone contained graphic images of the victim’s body, allegedly taken by the suspect after the crime.
Motive behind the murder
Investigations revealed that the murder was fueled by a long-standing grudge. Reports indicate that Cheruiyot had been harboring resentment since 2016, when Ruto ended their relationship and moved on with someone else. Feeling betrayed after spending money on her during their time together, he allegedly sought revenge in a brutal act of violence.
The suspect is currently in police custody as he awaits his court appearance. DCI detectives have assured the public that justice will be served.
