Digital advocate in town: Imagine ordering your lawyer just like you order your cab?

Every year, universities graduate lawyers who then spend more money to be named advocates. The real pain comes in when there is no job.

A friend recently made a joke saying ‘if only there was an App where we could get clients’. At first it seemed like a joke and I brushed it off with a ‘do not be lazy, put yourself out there’ comment.

Now that is easy, but who says advertising yourself is a guarantee you will get clients?

The era of digitization and technology has come with a lot of benefits and advocates are the latest beneficiaries.

Imagine downloading an App where you can get a lawyer based on your needs, someone who deals with whatever case you are fronting, someone well curated to suit your needs.

That is where technology has led us to in the month of August 2024. Digi-Advo, an App available on Google Play, will make it possible for advocates to get and retain clients while at the same time giving clients the freedom of choosing who they want to represent them in legal matters.

The application not only promotes and embraces digital revolution but is also a sign of hope for all legal professionals who might have given up on getting a client to represent.

They will now be approached by clients, based on their strengths, and showcase their skills in legal representation, as long as they are signed up in or to the Digi-Advo app.

This goes for the clients too. Once you are signed up, you are able to key in details and identify what services you want and a list of lawyers or advocates will be recommended for you.

But how will you navigate the application? Digi-Advo has two options: client and lawyer space.

The lawyer option is for the advocates seeking clients. After downloading the app, you will be required to sign in and create an account.

Instructions are clearly outlined and all you have to do is fill in the blank spaces with the necessary details like email and a password of your choice.

There is also the part of the details for the law firm and contact details. They also have the payment plan which is only reasonable because free things may be a little suspicious.

The payment is for your subscription which will have an expiry date. Every single detail is there and in case of queries they have a customer care or call center with phone number and email.

The client part is a little different. You download the app, sign in with Google and then enable location and you will have a list of advocates or law firms that are near you and registered, with ratings.

When you click on a particular firm, you get the details that will enable you to reach them in person or via phone call or mail.

You are also able to leave a review of whether you were satisfied and in case of any misconduct or complaint, you are also able to notify the App developer who will then take necessary action.

The App also gives you the liberty to rate the firm up to five stars, based on your experience.

Digi-Advo App comes at a time when the judiciary is embracing technology and digitization in its functions.

Chief Justice Martha Koome launched e-filing in all courts nationwide and as of July 1,2024, courts were not to print pleadings and documents.

In the same event, she unveiled a new Cause list Portal where advocates and litigants can get info on cases listed for the day, and a Data Tracking Dashboard that will assist the judiciary leaders to monitor case processing within courts from filing to conclusion.

It is therefore safe to say that the legal system might go all digital with lawyers and clients benefitting from the Digi-Advo app, saving them unnecessary tarmacking to find the right lawyers or finding clients.

With it being a new application, we cannot wait to see the review of Kenyans who will have used the application: clients and lawyers as such.
