“As friends and partners to Kenya, we call for restraint on all sides, and encourage all leaders to find peaceful solutions through constructive dialogue,” part of the statement read.

The joint statement from the international community came after tensions escalated in the country.

The anti-Finance Bill protests saw demonstrators, predominantly young people, storm the Parliament Buildings to express their anger towards the MPs.

The protesters demanded the rejection of the Finance Bill, 2024, and took to the streets in countrywide demonstrations.

The protests were marked by gunshots, tear gas, and running battles between security forces and demonstrators. Despite the unrest, the MPs eventually passed the Finance Bill.
