A DJ who was hired to play at a club has been handed a 14-week jail sentence after he was found guilty of assault after he filmed himself urinating on a cancer patient and then posting the video online.

The DJ identified as 40-year-old Leigh Brookfield, assaulted Peter Barton on December 26th 2023, and had pleaded guilty to the offence.

According to the video, Mr Barton was standing next to the 40-year-old DJ at the urinals and speaking about his prostate cancer diagnosis when Brookfield said “Sorry to hear that bud” and urinated on the back of the victim’s trousers.

Mr Barton only realized what had happened after the footage circulated on social media and his son contacted him.

The defendant’s lawyer told the court that there was “very little that can be said in Mr Brookfield’s favour”.

But, he added, the incident had been a “wake-up call for him” and that the prospect of time in custody “terrifies him”.

The victim Mr.Barton told the court about going shopping and people recognizing him from the video. It makes him feel embarrassed as he overhears whispered conversations.

Brookfield is not new to trouble as he has three previous convictions, all for drunk driving.

The management of Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club where the incident happened released a statement saying that it is devastated that [its] name was soiled by the incident”

Handing down his sentence, the Judge said Brookfield was entitled to a reduction of one-third for entering an early guilty plea.

He was also ordered to pay £500 compensation, costs of £85 and a £154 surcharge.
