Kenyan drivers have been warned against engaging free gear and especially when the vehicle they are controlling is loaded to avoid road accidents.
Experts from Isuzu and the Thika Motor Dealers have revealed that free gears causes brake failures and difficulties in controlling the vehicle in case of emergencies.
Speaking in Thika during an awarding ceremony of Isuzu’s TMD employees, George Mburu, a motor dealer and an expert urged the drivers to avoid free gears which he referred to as dangerous driving.
He also noted that some accidents are caused by the mistakes of some drivers, who drive under the influence.
Wambugu urged learning institutions to introduce safety driving skills for their drivers in order to protect learners from road crashes.
His sentiments were echoed by Brian Muya, a Technician at TMD who agreed that driving heavy vehicles on free gears can easily cause accidents.
This comes at a time when road accidents continue to claim lives, with the recent one killing two people at Mundika area in Busia county when a passenger bus collided with a fuel tanker.
