Doctors at the J.M. Kariuki County Referral Hospital in Olkalou, Nyandarua County, on May 22, 2024 performed the first spinal surgery ever in the county
The procedure was performed on a male patient who had fallen from the third floor of a building under construction in Olkalou town.
Dr. Erick Ng’ang’a, an orthopedic surgeon at the facility, led the operation in which medics corrected the patient’s tissue injuries.
Ng’ang’a said that the patient had fracture called lumber level three and they had to decompress the nerves which had been compressed and joined to the bone.
The surgical procedure was aimed at making the spinal code heal in a good position.
Meanwhile, Dr. Beatrice Murage, the hospital’s superintendent, stated that the patient was admitted on Friday May 17, 2024 and is now recovering well.
She described the successful operation as a watershed moment in Nyandarua’s health sector, attributing it to significant investment in the sector.
