The planned ‘Occupy MOH’ protests at the Ministry of Health headquarters, Afya House will go on as planned on Monday July 8, 2024, the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists & Dentists Union (KMPDU) secretary general Davji Atellah has confirmed.
In a statement on X, Davji Atellah noted that the the KMPDU social media handles were compromised to mislead the public over the alleged suspension of #OccupyMoH protests.
“Reports circulating to the effect that #OccupyMoH has been suspended is false.
“The union handle has been compromised and we are trying our best to gain control of it and clean,” stated Atellah.
The KMPDU secretary general added that they intend to overhaul the entire system at the Ministry of Health.
“We must overhaul the system including those that have hacked the union handles. We remain strong. We remain focused. Tukutane MoH,” he added.
The occupy MOH protests were aimed at pushing the government to ensure all medical interns are posted to health facilities nationwide in line with the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Earlier, there were reports circulating on social media about KMPDU calling off the plans to occupy the Ministry of Health’s headquarters at Afya House.
While allegedly suspending the strike, KMPDU noted that its negotiations with the Ministry of Health were promising, as they expected the government to address their demands.
“We are suspending the occupation of Afya House. This decision comes as a result of ongoing discussions and commitments made towards ensuring all medical interns are posted in accordance with the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA),” read part of KMPDU statement, which was termed fake.
