Police in Nairobi are investigating an incident where a teacher is accused of kidnapping his pupil and demanding ransom.
The teacher(s) of an unnamed school in Donholm is said to have kidnapped the nine-year-old pupil before demanding a KSh10 million ransom from his father.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Grade Three pupil’s father went to fetch his son from school only to find him missing.
He was informed that the pupil had left the school in the company of his class teacher, one Erick Mosoti.
“Efforts to trace the teacher proved futile only for the father to receive a call from abductors who were demanding a Sh10 Million ransom, prompting the father to make a report at Buruburu Police Station,” says the DCI.
DCI detectives swing into action
A team of detectives drawn from the Nairobi Region Command in collaboration with colleagues from DCI Buruburu swung into action.
The team launched a thorough operation in Kayole Sabasaba area, leading to the rescue of the minor who had been locked in a room.
The investigating agency believes that the room had been rented by another teacher – namely George Odhiambo – who works in the same school with the main suspect.
After being rescued, the minor was taken to hospital immediately for medical check-up.
Arrest of one suspect
Meanwhile, the sleuths managed to arrest a suspect namely Fredrick Odhiambo, after he was found making the demands for ransom in exchange for the minor’s freedom.
“A motorcycle, mobile phone and other items believed to have been used in the commission of the heartless act, were recovered and kept at exhibits as the operation continues to bring in the other suspects,” the DCI adds.
