National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has urged Kenyans who have not registered for the Social Health Authority (SHA), to stop complaining about the same.
Speaking on Monday January 20, 2025 during an event in Mumias, Kakamega County, Wetangula said that most citizens who were making noise about SHA, are not registered members.
“My appeal to all of you is that, don’t complain about SHA, yet you are not registered, go register for SHA and if you find it’s not working, you will have a right to complain,” said Wetangula.
The National Assembly Speaker added that, with Taifa Care, Kenyans have access to quality and affordable healthcare under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
He explained that under Taifa Care, employed citizens contribute towards SHA, for the benefit of all Kenyans.
“As speaker of the National Assembly I was paying Ksh1500 to NHIF, but with Taifa Care I pay Ksh58,000 per month.
“When I am sick, my bill is not paid by SHA, the money I pay is for supporting other Kenyans, because as members of parliament we have a medical insurance cover to cater for our health needs,” he said.
Wetangula added that each member of parliament (MP) pays Ksh 28,000 monthly to SHA, for the benefit of ordinary citizens.
He explained that registration is free for all citizens and interested individuals can register anytime, anywhere in the country.
His remarks emerged at a time when some Kenyans raised concerns, especially on social media about the challenges they were facing when accessing SHA services.
