Embu Senator Alexander Munyi Mundigi, dismisses former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s speculation over 2027 presidential bid.
This comes few days after Fred Matiang`i jetted back to the country, and was welcomed by leaders such as Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.
Speaking to journalists after a thanksgiving service at ACK Kavurukori in Manyatta, Mundigi said that Matiang’i should put his national ambitions on hold until he resolves divisions in Nyamira county.
“Don’t plan to challenge President William Ruto when your own county is divided,” Mundigi said
He urged Matiang’i to return to Nyamira and work with local leaders to bridge existing rifts before considering a presidential bid.
The senator also warned against early politicking. “This is not the time for campaigns,” he said, stressing that residents should focus on ongoing development projects rather than engage in party politics.
Matiang’i is yet to make a public statement regarding his political ambitions. However, Kioni indicated that he would address the nation soon to clarify his position and ambitions.
Highlighting the performance of the Kenya Kwanza government, Mundigi noted recent increase in coffee and tea prices as evidence that the coalition’s policies are benefiting farmers in Embu. He called on constituents to continue supporting President Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as they work to fulfil their election promises.
Mundigi’s comments come amid growing speculation about potential contenders for the 2027 election. His emphasis on local unity reflects a broader concern among some leaders that unresolved county-level disagreements could undermine national campaigns.
