A man has reportedly shot and killed his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself under unclear circumstances in Kisii County.
Confirming the tragic incident, Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kases said the bodies of the two victims were brought to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary on Friday, June 28 night.
The victims have been identified as Veronica Kerubo Morande, 30, and Vincent Mosioma Michieka, 30, both from Kisii.
“A report was received from a Boda Boda chairman of the Safaricom Shop Stage within Kisii Township that there was a shooting incident at credit Building Glassmatt Shop,” said Mr. Kases.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the woman had been fatally shot in the neck, and the suspect — who is a licensed gun holder — had also shot himself in the head at around 11:30 pm.
A Berreta pistol with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition and two spent cartridges were recovered from the scene.
Mr. Michieka was rushed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he succumbed to his head injuries.
The police have preserved the firearm and spent cartridges as evidence, pending further analysis to determine if the private firearm owner was licensed.
The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide and will ensure that justice is served.
