Nominated member of parliament (MP) Sabina Chege has disclosed that deputy president Rigathi Gachagua is the kingpin from the Mount Kenya region.
Speaking during an interview with TV47 on Monday January 15, Sabina Chege explained that although Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has all it takes to take over the leadership of the country, this was not the right time for him, adding that Gachagua was the senior most leader for now from the Mount Kenya region.
“Ndindi Nyoro has all it takes to take over the leadership of the country, but the issue is timing because for now the senior most person in the region is DP Rigathi Gachagua,” said Sabina Chege.
At the same time, the nominated Jubilee party MP noted that she was not in UDA and cannot authoritatively tell about leadership plans in the ruling party.
She added that despite Nyoro having a good track record for initiating various development projects in his constituency, he is not as senior as the deputy president in terms of Central Kenya politics.
Chege maintained that she was not undermining the Kiharu MP, since he has what it takes to lead Kenya.
“Ndindi Nyoro is doing a very good job, with a good development record in his constituency, he has the capacity and all it takes, so if I speak no one should say that I am undermining him,” she stated.

In a separate incident, Gachagua on Monday, January 15 warned a section of UDA leaders fronting Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as his replacement.
Gachagua, who was speaking during a funeral in Bomet, insisted that it was wrong for leaders from Mt Kenya region to engage in succession politics at this time.
The deputy president emphasized that engaging in succession politics four years to the next general elections was being disrespectful to President William Ruto and the people of Kenya
“The people do not want to hear about elections. They do not want to hear who will be elected where; they want service delivery; they want electricity, water and other forms of development,” Gachagua warned.

“President Ruto is one year in office. It is wrong to talk about his succession. Stop the talk and focus on work. Wait for the President’s 2027 reelection. Let us focus on the President’s success and assist him in the transformation of the country and the economy. Avoid succession politics,” he added.
The DP explained that he would not be derailed by succession politics even as a section of politicians from Central Kenya suggested that Ndindi Nyoro would be a better running mate for President Ruto in the 2027 presidential elections.
