Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, October 16, visited the home of a community health promoter, Everlyne Mutai at Cheborge village, in Kericho County.
Gachagua’s visit was a surprise to Mrs. Mutai, from a remote village of Cheborge.
The deputy president was accompanied by Health cabinet secretary (CS) Susan Nakhumicha during the visit.
Both Gachagua and Nakhumicha encouraged Mrs. Mutai to discharge her duties diligently towards the achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the county and country at large.

“Universal Healthcare is not about creating jobs, it’s about ensuring that Kenyans can access healthcare services without hardships,” Gachagua said.
“The government is willing and ready to equip the community health promoters with kits that are necessary in their day to day activities,” he added.
At the same time, CS Nakhumicha noted that community health promoters were doing a great job in offering basic medical assistance to members of the community at the grassroots level .
Later, the deputy president launched the UHC Mashujaa Day conference at the Kapkatet stadium, Kericho County, that started on Monday Ocober 16 and is expected to continue up to Friday October 19.

As a result, this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations will be held at the Kapkatet stadium after the UHC conference, in an event that will be graced by President William Ruto.
Themed, ‘health systems reforms for universal health coverage,’ this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations will be centered around the implementation of UHC.
The UHC Mashujaa Day conference is being sponsored by the National Syndemic Disease Control Council (NSDCC), under the Ministry of Health together with other partners.
Other partners are AMREF, Kericho County government, Kenya Red Cross, KEMRI, centre for disease control and prevention (CDC) and the pharmacy and poisons board.
