DP Gachagua’s impeachment motion ready for tabling in parliament

A motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is reportedly ready to be tabled in Parliament, with growing momentum among Members of Parliament (MPs) supporting the effort.

Sources indicate that over 116 MPs from various political factions have already appended their signatures in support of the motion.

According to supporters of the motion, the Deputy President is being accused of constitutional violations, legal breaches, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.

MPs have also raised concerns about Gachagua’s controversial remarks regarding the Mt. Kenya region’s share in the Kenya Kwanza government, as well as his alleged role in promoting divisive politics.

Additional charges include accusations of violating the Official Secrets Act and undermining the Cabinet’s collective responsibility.

Some MPs, especially those allied to President William Ruto, are keen to table the motion before the President’s return from his trip to the US.

The motion is set for tabling at the National Assembly on Thursday September 26, 2024, according to reliable sources.

However, some MPs, speaking on condition of anonymity, suggest that the motion might be delayed until next week to ensure it is thoroughly considered, leaving no room for errors that could benefit Gachagua.
