Deputy president Kithure Kindiki on Monday November 11, 2024 took over the leadership of the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) as the deputy party leader.
Kindiki takes over from Rigathi Gachagua following his impeachment from the office of the deputy president.
This was after the UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) on Monday resolved to replace Gachagua, who was serving as the party’s deputy leader.
Speaking on Monday, shortly after taking over his role as UDA deputy party leader, Kindiki promised to remain a loyal member of the party.
“I wholeheartedly accept to be the deputy party leader of the UDA party. I will be more than available to assist the president execute his manifesto whenever required,” said Kindiki.
“I’m aware that this party stands for unity in our country. I’m privileged to be part of the founding members of the UDA party and I assure you my unwavering support for better performance of the Kenya kwanza government,” he added.
Kindiki added that UDA stands for unity for all Kenyans regardless of their background.
At the same time, UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire and Secretary General Hassan Omar said Gachagua was not capable of discharging his duties after the impeachment.
Meanwhile, Gachagua was impeached by the National Assembly on October 8, 2024 and his impeachment was upheld by the Senate on October 17, 2024.
