Dr Gikonyo updates Kenyans on DP Gachagua’s health condition

Embattled Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is in a stable condition, this is according to Dr Dan Gikonyo of the Karen Hospital.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, October 17, Dr Gikonyo said that they are still conducting more tests on DP Gachagua.

“He came in at around 3 pm with a lot of chest pains. When you come to hospital with chest pain, our first concern is whether it is something to do with the heart,” Dr Gikonyo said. “Our job is to make sure that you don’t have any possibility of a heart attack. That is why we have taken him in and is undergoing through various investigations.”

Dr Gikonyo says that they will have to monitor the second in command at the hospital for at least 48 hours, to make sure that he is okay.

“Right now he’s stable, the pain is less, blood pressure is okay and we are still carrying on with the investigations. Every adult from the age of 45, 50, can get heart trouble, especially if you have high blood pressure, diabetes or family history. That is why we tell people all the time about lifestyle changes. He doesn’t smoke, he is quite stable.”

Gachagua was supposed to appear before the Senate as a witness in an impeachment proceedings against him.

His lawyers tried to plead with the Senate to postpone the sittings but to know aveil.

In the end, Senators voted against a procedural motion that had sought to gazette Saturday, October 19 as the day of hearing and determination of Gachagua’s impeachment trial.
