Drama as bar attendant snatches plainclothes police officer’s phone over KSh2,220 bill; he comes back in full uniform and shoots

Police in Narok County are investigating a shooting incident by a police officer at a liquor joint in Lolgorian Shopping Centre.

The incident that occurred Sunday, April 7 at around 6 pm saw the Dennis Imai — attached to the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) at Enkorika Village — visit JJ Wines and Spirits while in civilian clothes.

At the liqour joint, Imai met one Jackline Jemeli, the bar attendant who reportedly snatched his phone over non-payment of a previous bill amounting to KSh2,220.

“The said police officer left the beer den only to re-emerge 30 minutes later in full uniform and armed with a rifle in company of unknown bodaboda rider,” a report filed at Lolgorian Police Station by one Vivian Menjo reads in part.

The officer is said to have “provocatively” demanded for his mobile phone and when Jemeli refused to give him, he reportedly fired one round before he was whisked away quickly by the bodaboda rider who was waiting a few metres away.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Officers from Lolgorian Police Station visited the scene. “The Spent cartridge was searched in vain but it is suspected to have been picked by the officer before he fled away,” the report adds.
