Police in Kampala, Uganda, on Thursday, January 25 arrested a man ferrying alleged stolen cows in a Toyota Land Cruiser.
Confirming the arrest, Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Area Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, says the Flying Squad Unit received a tip off of a man transporting the stolen cows to sell them in a slaughterhouse in Kyengere and Natete areas.
“In the early hours of the morning at Kutano Nakawuka Road in Rubaga Division, the team, vigilant and prepared, engaged the vehicle. The driver attempted to evade the checkpoint, prompting officers to deflate the vehicle’s tyres,” Owoyesigyire says.
In the process, the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Mugema Ismah, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention at Mulago Hospital.
Upon inspection of the vehicle, two live cows were discovered in the back seat and trunk, securely tied.
Police have began investigations in earnest to determine the origin of the stolen cattle, with suspicions pointing towards Matuga area in central Uganda.
Authorities are now urging anyone with information on stolen cows to report to Natete Police station.
