Driver of bus that killed 15 people along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway arrested

The driver of an ill-fated bus that killed 15 people on Tuesday morning at Twins Bridge on Eldoret-Nakuru Highway presented at Molo Law Courts.

This came after his arrest on Wednesday and detention at the Mau Summit Police Station. 

Detectives handling the matter informed the press that through a joint investigation with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials, law enforcement officers were able to trace the suspect through his mobile records to Mau Summit Town, some metres away from the accident scene.

“An investigation has commenced to establish the full circumstances leading to this crash to inform prosecution and recommendations,” said the detectives.

According to preliminary investigations the 34 -year-old driver was trying to overtake another vehicle and ended up colliding with an oncoming matatu.

15 people lost their lives on Tuesday morning in a road accident at the Twin Bridge area along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

According to a report from the National Police Service (NPS), the fatal accident occurred at 2:45 am on Tuesday.

The carnage involved a bus belonging to Classic Kings of Congo and North Ways Shuttle Toyota matatu.

Police officers attached to Mau Summit Police Station rushed to the scene alongside medics to address the situation.

It is reported that the injured were rushed to Molo Sub-County Hospital, while the deceased’s bodies were transferred to the hospital’s mortuary.

NPS urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, particularly at this time when students are resuming school.
