Drop the controversial Finance Bill, Sonko advises President Ruto

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has publicly advised President William Ruto to reconsider the controversial finance bill that has sparked widespread discontent among Kenyans.

Using his social media platforms, Sonko urged President Ruto to return the bill to parliament, emphasizing its rejection by the public.

“If your heart is with Kenyans, as my good friend, I can only advise you to send the finance bill back to the sender,” Sonko reiterated.

In a gesture to support the injured protesters, Sonko donated seven (7) ambulances with 21 professional medics on Monday.

He highlighted that even the children of notable figures in the county have joined the demonstrations, underscoring the movement’s broad support.

“The son of the regional police commander in Nairobi, Adamson Bunge, MP Mwangi Kiunjuri, my own son in Kwale County, and Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit’s son, among others, have joined the demos. This should tell you that it is not business as usual,” Sonko said.

Sonko criticized President Ruto’s advisers, accusing them of providing poor guidance and disrespecting other close allies of the president.

Earlier, at a funeral and during an appearance on the Obinna show, Sonko had advised the government to listen to the people before tabling the bill and to address the demolitions in Nairobi amicably. He noted that the bill contained several ambiguous statements that would not resonate with Kenyans.

Monday’s anti-finance bill demonstration was one of the largest in Kenya’s history. Protesters stormed the National Assembly, setting parts of it and other government offices on fire. The protests resulted in over 10 deaths and hundreds of injuries due to police actions.
