A police officer in Uganda has been dismissed from the force after he was charged with attempted murder and threatening violence.
Police corporal Ambrose Katumwehe was sacked after he threatened violence against Nakyanzi Caroline, a barmaid in Kanekye trading center.
This was not the first event as the 57-year-old police officer attached to Kanekye Police Post had one too many before everything went wrong.
Police officer fires bullets at a barmaid
“The suspect while in a drunken state, and armed with a gun, threatened to fire bullets at the victim’s door, if she failed to open,” a police report reads in part. “Shortly after, he fired 3 bullets at her door, which prompted an alarm.”
The cop would later return to his post, and was arrested shortly thereafter by a team led by Bushenyi District Commander.
“The fun was recovered, cartridges and exhibited. He was charged with Attempted Murder and threatening violence,” add the report.
The Uganda Police Force Spokesperson Fred Enanga maintains that is will continue holding officers who commit acts of violence accountable. “We stand for rule of law and will not tolerate such acts of impunity, within our rank and file.”
