Dubai 7s: Shujaa falls to Australia, misses out on quarter finals

Kenya’s rugby team, Shujaa were handed a 31-14 defeat by Australia in their last pool A match of the 2024 Dubai 7s played on Saturday November 30, 2024 at the Sevens Stadium.

Michael Icely drew first score for Australia minutes into the game before Hayden Sargeant added another try but the conversion failed to sail through for the two tries bringing the scores to 10-00 in favour of Australia.

As halftime approached Patrick Odongo managed to score Kenya’s first try with Nygel Amaitsa adding the extras for a 10-07 scoreline at the break.

Australia continued to showcase their dominance as the second half unfolded with tries from Nathan Lawson, Hayden Sargeant and Henry Hutchinson extending their lead to 31-7.

Nondescript player Benson Salem came in with a try for Shujaa in the dying minutes of the game with the conversion being successful but this did not stop Australia from picking their first win of the series with a 31-14 scoreline at full-time.

The loss meant that Shujaa registered two losses and a win in Pool A of Dubai 7s and will now drop to the ranking playoff matches where they will play Ireland on Sunday 1st December at 1:06pm EAT.
