Dwyane Wade, Professional Basketball Legend has bravely opened up about one of the most challenging periods in his life, revealing that he nearly ended his relationship with his now-wife, the celebrated Actress and Model Gabrielle Union.
Dwyane Wade, a former Miami Heat Star, shared these deeply personal insights during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast, ‘Club Shay Shay.’
He candidly discussed the stormy time when his relationship with Gabrielle Union faced a severe test, stemming from the revelation that he was expecting a child with another woman.
The NBA icon fathered his now 9-year-old son, Xavier, with reality TV star Aja Metoyer in 2013 during a temporary break in his relationship with Gabrielle.
He emphasized that the challenge of infidelity continues to impact their relationship to this day.
“It hasn’t been perfect; it will never be perfect. We go to therapy; we’ve been to therapy. We’ve had heated arguments about it, and we’ve had regular conversations about it.
It’s going to continue to be something that I have to work at and work on,” Wade shared with Shay Shay.
He further revealed that, at one point, he considered ending his relationship with Gabrielle Union to avoid facing the difficult situation.
However, he expressed immense gratitude that Gabrielle did not give up on him or their relationship.
“I tried to tiptoe around it. I tried to break up with her. ‘Hey, things have been tough lately.’ ‘Hey, we’ve been growing apart.’ I tried everything. But she kept showing up,” Dwyane affectionately confessed.
Wade emphasized that he couldn’t have navigated the turbulent waters without his steadfast partner by his side.
He also expressed deep empathy for his son, Xavier, who will have to carry the weight of this narrative throughout his life.
“When it comes to my son, it’s tough for him. This burden will always be with him. He’s done nothing wrong. It’s an unjust stain on him,” Wade revealed with profound emotion.

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union began their relationship in 2009 and eventually tied the knot on August 30, 2014.
They share a beautiful daughter named Kaavia James. In addition to Xavier, Wade has three other children from previous relationships.
