The Chairperson of the 2024 EALA Games planning committee, Vincent Kawaya, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mwala Constituency, encouraged Mombasa residents, to take advantage of the 14th East African Interparliementary games to showcase Kenya’s tourism potential.
The East African Legislative Assembly games which are scheduled to take place from December 7th to December 18th, 2024 in Mombasa will see over 1000 representatives from the East African Community (EAC) converge in Mombasa county.
According to Kawaya adequate preparations have been made in terms of stadiums, accommodation, healthcare, and security to ensure smooth operations throughout the games.
“Mombasa is one of the best holiday destinations. This is an opportunity to integrate with our neighbors and promote Kenya as a tourist hotspot. We urge our guests to extend their stay beyond the games to explore the recreational activities our country offers,” Kawaya stated.
On his part Tana River County Senator Danson Mungatana assured the public of maximum security and comprehensive preparedness regarding stadium facilities, accommodations, and healthcare services.
“We have made the required adjustments to our grounds to ensure they are ready for the planned activities. Inclusivity has been a priority, and we’ve designed the facilities to accommodate people with disabilities,” said Mungatana.
Games and Venues
Themed “To Enhance Regional Integration,” the EALA Games aim to foster collaboration and camaraderie among participants from the seven member states: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi, and the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The competitions will include:
- Football, Athletics, Tug of War (at Shanzu Training College grounds)
- Netball, Volleyball, Basketball, and Darts for People with Disabilities (PWDs) (at Aga Khan Academy)
- Golf (at Nyali Golf Club)
Significance of the Games
Former Kieni MP Kanini Kega highlighted the importance of the games in strengthening the East African political federation and fostering unity among EALA’s seven members.
“As we celebrate 25 years of East African integration, this platform will enhance collaboration among our member states. We call on the public to show up in large numbers to celebrate this milestone and the games,” Kega remarked.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony will take place on December 7th, 2024, with President William Ruto expected to preside over the event.
