Today we welcome the decision to crack down on vehicles illegally fitted with strobe lights and sirens as a necessary measure to restore sanity on our roads.
For far too long, a number of motorists have wielded these unauthorized accessories as tools of intimidation and entitlement, turning our daily commute into a nightmare.
They defy lane discipline, careen down roads with flashing lights blaring, and flout every rule of the road with impunity.
It’s a blatant violation of the Traffic Act, which strictly limits the use of sirens to authorized vehicles like police cars, ambulances, and fire engines. Anyone else wielding such equipment is breaking the law, plain and simple.
But now, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has authorized a renewed crackdown on these rogue vehicles, sending a clear message to all road users: enough is enough.
The process outlined by Koskei for obtaining approval for the use of these accessories is clear and fair. It ensures that only those with a legitimate need can access them, while also holding accountable those who flout the rules.
But for this directive to be effective, law enforcement agencies must now play their part in restoring order to our roads. Over to you Police Inspector General Japheth Koome.
It’s time for those who feel entitled to special treatment on our roads to wake up to reality. Your urgency does not justify endangering the lives of others.
Plan your journeys better, leave earlier if you must, but don’t make the daily commute a nightmare for everyone else.
Whether you are a senior state official or a private individual with a blown-up ego, the rules apply to everyone. It’s time to buckle up, follow the rules, and drive responsibly.
