The spotlight today falls on the arrest and arraignment of Margaret Nyakango, the Controller of Budget.
Charged with conspiracy to defraud, operating an unlicensed sacco, and forgery dating back to 2016, the timing of this grand spectacle couldn’t be more… well, timely.
We, at TV47, unequivocally denounce any criminal acts, and we emphasize the need for justice to prevail regardless of the individual’s stature.
However, we retain our right to scrutinize this turn of events? Her arrest comes barely four weeks after her presentation before the National Dialogue Committee where she revealed that someone at the National Treasury had been inflating her salary by three times the amount, exposing the existence of what she termed as budgeted corruption in government.
She has followed this with further claims of corruption and mismanagement of funds in both the national and county governments.
Get it right, our skepticism doesn’t seek to invalidate the allegations or shield her from scrutiny. Rather, it questions the coincidence of events.
Is her arrest an outcome of newfound evidence or a conveniently timed disruption to her crusade against corruption?
In this unfolding saga, we say that let justice truly be just, not a likeness of vengeance disguised as righteousness. For if the scales of justice tip under the weight of manipulation, then the very essence of fairness is rendered a theatrical performance, and the real culprits continue their acts backstage, shielded by the curtains of power.
As we watch this show of justice unfold, let us be clear that justice is the only right remedy for wrong doing, but let’s also not forget that the script can be revised, rewritten, and manipulated by those who seek to take advantage of the system.
For in this narrative, truth is more often than not the casualty.
