EDITORIAL: Kenya’s anti-corruption war is just another magic show

National NewsNews

The recent acquittals in the Arror and Kimwarer dams’ scandal add another gem to the crown of anti-corruption jumbles and disappearing acts that would even make Houdini envious.

It’s a spectacle where billions of Kenyan money performs vanishing acts without a magician in sight.

How does anyone pull off such grand heists of public funds and yet the evidence manages to vanish quicker than a rabbit in a hat? Is it the art of illusion or just a dose of bureaucratic bewitchment?

Charges withdrawn, and the audience left scratching their heads, wondering if they just witnessed a magic show or a tragic comedy.

The script of these corruption sagas is as old as the hills, with each act meticulously crafted: allegations, investigations, court dramas, and finally, the grand finale – cases dismissed due to an apparent lack of evidence.

In this circus of legal acrobatics, where the audience hopes for justice but gets a performance of disappearing evidence, one can’t help but wonder: Will anyone ever be made to answer for corruption in Kenya, or have we stumbled upon a realm where accountability is just but an illusion, and the real magic trick is convincing the masses that justice will prevail?

The war on corruption in Kenya might just be the greatest magic show in town, where the disappearing acts of evidence and the drama of cases being thrown out keep the audience spellbound, leaving us all wondering if the only real wizardry here is the art of escaping consequences.

Well, we the audience, are now tired and seek to rewrite and direct the script. Where, at least according to our plot, corruption will have real and obvious consequences.
