Education CS Machogu sets date for releasing 2023 KCSE results

National News

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has set the date for releasing 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination KCSE results.

Machogu noted in a statement on Thursday, December 28, that the 2023 KCSE results will be released in the second week of January 2024.

According to the Education CS, examiners have completed marking of the KCSE exams. At the same time, Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) in conjunction with Education Ministry officials are currently working on the compilation, verification, and validation of marks.

Machogu’s remarks emerged after KNEC on December 8, issued a statement dismissing reports that the KCSE results would be released before December 25.

“KNEC has made no such statement. Marking of KCSE is ongoing and the results will be released when they are ready,” read part of a statement from KNEC.

This was after rumours emerged on social media platforms that KNEC was set to release the results before Christmas day.

Statistics from KNEC reveal that 903,260 students sat for the 2023 KCSE examinations, which started on October 23, 2023 and ended on November 24, 2023.

On the other hand, during the release of the 2023 KCPE results, several parents and teachers raised complaints over numerous errors in the results.

For instance, some KCPE candidates complained about being awarded results for subjects they never sat.

In addition, the errors in 2023 KCPE examinations attracted the attention of Azimio leader Raila Odinga who disclosed that the credibility of national examinations in Kenya was on trial under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Speaking during a political rally in Nyamira on November 27, Raila said that the marking of the 2023 KCPE exam was skewed and only aimed at achieving a particular political goal.

Raila questioned why in some schools, candidates in the 2023 KCPE examination scored the same marks in one subject.

“The issue of candidates in a school scoring same marks in a subject was killing the credibility of national examination and undermining the integrity of candidates,” said Raila.
