Margaret Koki, 14, hails from Ekalakala village in Matuu, Machakos County and scored 372 marks in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams at Ikombe Primary School.
- She was, however, stranded at home as her single mother had no financial means to admit her to Form One.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has come to the aid of a bright but needy girl whose dreams had come to a halt because of financial constraints.
Sonko secured Form One admission for Margaret Koki, 14, at State House Girls High School in Nairobi on Tuesday, March 7.
Koki - who hails from Ekalakala village in Matuu, Machakos County - scored 372 marks in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams at Ikombe Primary School, but was stranded at home.
Her jobless, single mother was unable to raise school fees, as well as money to buy uniforms and other basic school requirements.
"I learnt about the case after coming across her appeal video on social media earlier today. I was very much touched and saddened by the story and almost became emotional," Sonko says.
After seeing the girl's online appeal, Sonko immediately posted the video on his social media platforms requesting for the girl to be brought to his office.
I have just come across this video, can the parents of this bright girl who has been called to Statehouse Girls reach out to my office immediately and not later than today.
