Police in Juja, Kiambu County, have seized 480 litres of industrial ethanol and cartons of assorted second-generation alcohol being manufactured and stored inside a three-bedroomed residential house at Theta village.
The alcoholic drinks were seized in the house where they were being distilled, packed and reportedly sold to bars in the surrounding areas.
According to Kiambu County Police Commander Michael Muchiri, police also managed to find a roll of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stickers believed to have been used by the manufacturer to evade taxes and to hoodwink consumers.
Muchiri, who also revealed that seizure of a vehicle heavily loaded with empty bottles, noted that the drinks were being manufactured in a poor environment with no sign of following distilling standards.
During the operation led by Muchiri, police managed to arrest eight suspects among them two females and six males who were detained awaiting prosecution in court.
Residents who spoke to journalists after the operation said the activities inside the quiet residence were strange to them.
They stated that the manufacturer may have been conducting transportation of the illicit drinks during the night as they hardly witness activities around the home during the day.
Muchiri lauded locals for volunteering information that led to the impromptu crackdown saying that their actionable information could save the country from unscrupulous hellbent on destroying the lives of Kenyans.
He also warned fake alcohol manufacturers that the police would not spare anyone caught selling the harmful substances.
