El Chapo’s wife Emma Coronel Aispuro, has regained her freedom.
The wife of notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, emerged from a US prison.
This was after serving nearly two years on drug trafficking and money laundering charges.
This revelation came from a prison official on Wednesday.
Incidentally, in November 2021, she received a three-year prison sentence.
Truthfully, Emma pleaded guilty to charges directly linked to her husband’s sprawling narcotics empire.
Free at last
El Chapo’s wife punishment also entailed four years of supervised release and the forfeiture of $1.5 million.
A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP), Randilee Giamusso, confirmed Coronel’s release, stating
“We can confirm Emma Coronel Aispuro was released from the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) today, September 13, 2023.”
However, for privacy, safety, and security, the FBOP does not provide additional information on those no longer in our custody.”
El Chapo’s remorseful
Consequently, El Chapo’s wife served her sentence at a residential reentry management facility situated in Long Beach, California.
During her sentencing, Coronel, who holds dual US-Mexican citizenship, expressed profound remorse for her involvement with Guzman and the Sinaloa Cartel.
Furthermore, she recognized the harm her actions may have caused.
El Chapo still detained
In contrast, her husband, El Chapo, who twice executed daring escapes from Mexican prisons is currently serving a life sentence at Colorado’s formidable Supermax prison.
In 2019, he was convicted of a litany of charges, including engaging in a criminal enterprise, drug trafficking, and firearms offenses.
Prosecutors described him as a “ruthless and bloodthirsty leader” of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Unfortunately, the Sinaloa Cartel remains active despite the incarceration of its notorious leader.
In February, the Biden administration sanctioned members of the cartel for their involvement in the illegal and deadly trade of fentanyl and methamphetamine, highlighting the ongoing battle against drug-related crimes.
