Elders order Arati, Osoro to give 6 goats each for sacrifice

The Kisii council of elders has ordered governor Simba Arati and South Mugirango  member of parliament (MP) Sylvanus Osoro  to give six goats each for reconciliatory sacrifice.

Speaking during a press briefing in Kisii on Monday, January 22, the elders explained that the leaders should give six goats each for a communal sacrifice aimed at ending clashes in the region.

According to the elders, the sacrifice is scheduled to take place on February 1, 2024 at Manga Hills.

At the same time, the elders disclosed that they had already communicated to Arati and Osoro about the scheduled event.

This therefore means a total of 24 goats will be slaughtered during the event if all the four leaders honour summons by the elders.

“It is all about atoning for the blood that has already spilled since the bad blood between the leaders began,” Nyakundi Kirera, an elder, told journalists.

The elders made the demands barely a week after residents held protests on Monday January 15, calling on Osoro to respect the governor.

During the protests that took place in the Nyabisabo area, residents called for mutual respect and symbiotic working relationships among elected leaders in the county.

However, the elders expressed optimism that the leaders will give the goats for the sacrifice in order to end the animosity among the elected leaders.

They added that the sacrifice was effective in restoring peace for the sake of harmony and development in the county and the region.
