Eldoret farmer jailed for two years for having “sex” with cow

Bill Kipchumba, aged 20 pleaded guilty to committing unnatural act with a cow on September 11,2023.

Kipchumba, a farmer based in Seretio Village in Uasin Gishu county told court that he wore a condom during the act.

He confessed and pleaded with the court forgive him. During mitigation, he informed court that he was a first time offender.

“Your honour, I am pleading with the court to forgive me. This is the first time I have committed such an offence,” he told Eldoret Law Courts.

Kipchumba further told court that he had a strong sexual urge that he could not control. “I had a strong sexual urge that I could not control and this must be the work of the devil.”

The cow owner told court that he caught Kipchumba in the act after he was alerted by unusual noise in the cowshed at 7:00 am Monday morning.

Principal magistrate Caroline Wattimah sentenced Kipchumba to two years imprisonment, saying that the evidence was enough to prove guilt.

“All animals should be treated with respect and dignity as human beings, I therefore sentence you to two years in jail,” ruled Principal Magistrate Wattimah.

Unnatural acts with animals also referred to as bestiality is considered a felony in Kenya.

One can be imprisoned for up to 14 years if found guilty of the offense according to Section 162 (b) of the Penal Code.
