A middle-aged woman from Eldoret has been sentenced to four years in prison for the tragic death of her husband.
Judge Reuben Nyakundi of the Eldoret High Court delivered the verdict, finding Abigael Yego guilty of killing Livingston Kamau on June 17, 2019, at Moi’s Bridge in Uasin Gishu County.
The court heard that the fatal incident arose from a heated argument between the couple.
At the time, Yego and Kamau were parents to a four-month-old baby, adding a poignant layer to the case.
In delivering the sentence, Judge Nyakundi considered a letter of forgiveness from the deceased’s father, Josphat Mwangi.
Mwangi accepted Yego’s apology, showing a measure of grace in the face of immense loss.
The judge also reviewed a report from the children’s office, which highlighted the health issues of the couple’s baby.
The report recommended that the infant remain in his mother’s care to continue breastfeeding during Yego’s imprisonment.
Despite the tragic nature of the case, the court took into account the well-being of the child, acknowledging that the baby’s needs would be better met with his mother.
Yego now has 14 days to appeal the court’s judgment.
As she begins her prison sentence, the focus will remain on ensuring that the baby receives the necessary care and support during this difficult time.
