A group of youths have intervened in helping an abandoned 82 year old grandmother who lives in the forest at a cliff in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The youths intervened after noticing that the number of abandoned old people was increasing in the county. 

Led by Raphael Kipyego, the youth leaders noted that most old persons were suffering due to lack of support and funds to buy food and other basic items.

Kipyego was speaking on Monday March 24, 2025, when they visited 82-year-old Grace Chemwolo in Kipreng village, Emsoo ward. 

He explained that most of the old people in the area lack proper housing, as they resort to living in some temporary structures in the bushes.

At the same time, the youth urged the government and other well wishers to assist the aged members of the community by providing them with blankets, clothes, beddings, shelter and food.
