Kenya’s World-class marathoner Eliud Kipchoge continues to cement his name in the global athletics history books by winning yet another international marathon.
Kipchoge has clocked 2:02:42 to win the Berlin Marathon, becoming the first athlete to win the marathon five times.
Despite the victory, kipchoge seemed a bit disappointed as he set his eyes on finishing the race in a time of 2:01:09.
Toward the culmination of the race, the 38-year-old world record holder seemed to have lost some steam forcing him to put in his fighting spirit and solder on triumphantly to the finishing line.
“Berlin is like home to me,” he said
After this accomplishment, Kipchoge now sets his eye on the 2024 Olympics set for Paris in France. He indicated that the Berlin Marathon is part of the preparations.
“I want to concentrate and put all experience into next year’s Olympics in Paris and win the third Olympic title,” he added.
The win Propels Kipchoge ahead of Ethiopia’s Gebresellasie Haille, with whom they shared the most races won in the German city both having won four times. Now Kipchoge has five.
His compatriot Vicent Kipkemoi came in second clocking 2:03:13. In the last stage Kemboi seemed to be challenging Kipchoge to be the first to cut the tape.
Nonetheless, it is now evident that there is no way he was going to deny the G.O.A.T. his crown.
For a debutant at the Berlin Marathon, Vincent Kipkemoi has made his mark.
In third place was Ethiopia’s Tadese Takele who finished 11 seconds behind Kemboi clocking a time of 2:03:14.
Back home he has been celebrated by leaders led by President William Ruto, First Lady Recheal Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Azimio Leader Raila Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
