The SpaceX (formerly Twitter) CEO Elon Musk passed out after drinking vodka in a meeting with Russians, his new biography has revealed.
The incident was linked to a hangover after partying for several days in Paris before embarking on a journey to Moscow.
Musk was in Moscow on a mission to buy rockets when he collapsed after taking several glasses of vodka while negotiating for rockets.
According to Isaacson, the SpaceX CEO had wanted to launch a mission that would inspire public interest before founding the company in 2002.
First, Elon Musk employed a rocket engineer called Jim Cantrell. On his business trip to Russia, Musk was accompanied by Jim Cantrell and his former college housemate Adeo Ressi.
Isaacson wrote in the biography that the journey included a stopover in Paris, where a late night of partying left Musk unstable on arrival in Moscow.
The biography further elaborates that in a room of a Moscow restaurant, the lunchtime meeting involved several food items with large shots of vodka.
After the meeting, Musk together with Jim and Ressi were gifted a bottle of vodka each with custom labels showing pictures of each recipient on Mars.
“I calculated the weight of the food and the weight of the vodka, and they were roughly equal,” Musk told Isaacson.
The billionaire had earlier disclosed that he didn’t like the taste and effects of most alcoholic drinks.
“Musk, who was holding his head up with his hand, passed out, and his head slammed into the table,” Isaacson noted in the biography.
After the incident in Moscow, Musk held another meeting in Russia although it was not successful as he didn’t purchase the rockets.
In a separate incident in 2022, the SpaceX CEO was pictured drinking from a wine glass at the FIFA World Cup championships final in Qatar.
